Occasionally mods will be allowing a set number of characters to schedule an involved conversation with a mod regarding the discovery of something in game, as announced on the OOC community or on a mod log. Characters who have signed up for the option will be selected via RNG (with preference given to characters who have not yet had a thread like this), and the thread will be conducted on this page.
You can see a sample thread in the comments below, but in essence, this thread is meant to mimic the conversation a tabletop player might have with their DM. The mod will establish the setting, and you may describe your character's actions and decisions. The mod will respond with reactions and any particular consequences, and the mod and player will move throughout the scenario together, until all questions are satisfied and all actions are taken.
After this informational thread is complete, it's assumed that anything learned within is now common knowledge for the rest of the game. You're still welcome to thread out discussion or discovery of this ICly, but if you'd like to skip ahead to any fallout or follow-up action, that's also fine.
As a note, these threads do not have to be limited to one character in the scene. For the ease of moving threads along quickly, we ask that one player take the reins in terms of writing out the actions of all characters involved in the scene. We have a channel reserved in the Discord channel limited to current thread participants to facilitate OOC discussion of who's doing what for this purpose.
Using the flashlight (and his own excellent vision) he so generously received from Max, Rin is going to examine the the cracked structure. He wades into the water to do this, telling Shuzo to stay put and wait for him.
Most of the cracks are too small to do more than emanate that faint light, with the sheets of metal either too close to one another, or another sheet behind them blocking the flashlight’s beam. One of them, though, toward the center of the structure, does seem to show something — four somethings, blocking the light behind in an even, alternating pattern with one another.
This is looking increasingly dangerous. Rin cautions Shuzo to hold his position, then wades around the structure in search of a good access point. Once he's found that, he'll take a crowbar from one of his packs and start trying to get in there.
The metal pries back, but only with great reluctance — and with a certain organic slowness to it, as if peeling open a clam shell. Only a few small pieces pull back at first, increasing the sickly green glow, but with patience a larger, central piece begins to pry loose. As soon as he’s created a gap of more than a few inches, a metal-embedded hand darts out of the interior to fasten about Rin’s wrist with a vicelike grip.
Well, Rin does not care for that shit at all. He's about to whip out a knife and just come right down on this mysterious hand, but then Shuzo (AGAINST ORDERS) wades in to try to pry those fingers off of Rin's wrist. Rin changes his attitude to one of a frightened damsel in response to this, breathing hard and seeming to panic.
The hand tightens its grip in response to this, easily to the level of leaving an impressive bruise. A resounding boom sounds from the pod, and its remaining metal shivers under some interior force. The hand begins to pull.
Under Shuzo’s touch, the metal of the structure begins to peel apart on its own — again, organically, like a withering leaf. A shape can be seen within the interior, dark and writhing against what holds it, splashing in the water that has leaked in. It releases its hold on Rin’s hand and withdraws the limb, and the boom returns as it strikes at the remaining constraints, again and again.
Rin clutches his aching wrist, gasping, looking from Shuzo (with genuine gratefulness) to the thing within. So obviously something is trapped in there. Can they communicate with it, or is it mindlessly violent?
There’s a pause at the sound of his voice — then a wordless roar, as the thuds intensify. The metal shudders, beginning to give way in the wake of Shuzo’s work on it. An arm breaks through, attempting to rip at the confines from the outside. The limb is mostly converted metal, but with a bit of dark gray flesh and tatters of black sleeve.
Rin tells Shuzo it's time to run. He grabs the flashlight and his crowbar, and he's off, heading fast out of the water and towards whatever path puts a lot of distance between them and the cell.
