GEOSURGE PLOT THREADS Occasionally mods will be allowing a set number of characters to schedule an involved conversation with a mod regarding the discovery of something in game, as announced on the OOC community or on a mod log. Characters who have signed up for the option will be selected via RNG (with preference given to characters who have not yet had a thread like this), and the thread will be conducted on this page. You can see a sample thread in the comments below, but in essence, this thread is meant to mimic the conversation a tabletop player might have with their DM. The mod will establish the setting, and you may describe your character's actions and decisions. The mod will respond with reactions and any particular consequences, and the mod and player will move throughout the scenario together, until all questions are satisfied and all actions are taken. After this informational thread is complete, it's assumed that anything learned within is now common knowledge for the rest of the game. You're still welcome to thread out discussion or discovery of this ICly, but if you'd like to skip ahead to any fallout or follow-up action, that's also fine. As a note, these threads do not have to be limited to one character in the scene. For the ease of moving threads along quickly, we ask that one player take the reins in terms of writing out the actions of all characters involved in the scene. We have a channel reserved in the Discord channel limited to current thread participants to facilitate OOC discussion of who's doing what for this purpose.

He'll kneel down to look at the crystals briefly :|a And then get an idea. Is there any kind of switch for the spotlight?

On the right side is presumably an ON/OFF switch, although he wouldn't be familiar with the symbols.

Nope, but a switch is a switch. Experimentally, he flips it.

Nothing happens.

... He'll try it again a few more times for good measure. Assuming nothing still happens?

Still nothing; it seems just as dead as the rest of the room.

Alright then. After thinking on it for a moment, 9S will kick at a small patch of the crystals in an attempt to break them off.

They're not very tightly secured, and are kicked off easily enough. The light flickers, and grows slightly dimmer.

Time to see if that's a coincidence or not. He'll break off another small patch.

The same things happens, and the light loses slightly more of its intensity.

He'll leave that alone, then, and instead pick up a handful of the broken crystals, inspecting them over more closely. Do they still glow?

They don't; once severed from the base of the light they seem to be pretty ordinary crystals.

If the grid is visible by any through the hostile crystal takeover, 9S will try looking it over to see if there's anything unusual about it.

He can see small patches of it through crystals he's removed, and it looks fairly standard. There's a slim crack in the plastic casing, and it looks like the crystal growth perhaps caused it with pressure, and then began to edge into the casing to contact the wires and circuitry inside.

Time to go back to some crystal cleaning then! 9S will start breaking off as much of the crystals he can.

The light dims with each removal, and finally flickers out entirely. The last of the crystals go dark with the light, plunging the room into darkness.

Or, almost into darkness. One of the broken crystal fragments on the floor has retained a miniscule trace of that previous glow.

He'll be taking that, thank you!

Now to go back to relying on Pod's flashlight. Everything else is shut off, though, so it's not possible to rifle through the terminals. Before taking it upon himself to make any other big changes in the room, however, it might be a better idea to make the others aware of this space. So, 9S will turn back toward the exit.
