Occasionally mods will be allowing a set number of characters to schedule an involved conversation with a mod regarding the discovery of something in game, as announced on the OOC community or on a mod log. Characters who have signed up for the option will be selected via RNG (with preference given to characters who have not yet had a thread like this), and the thread will be conducted on this page.
You can see a sample thread in the comments below, but in essence, this thread is meant to mimic the conversation a tabletop player might have with their DM. The mod will establish the setting, and you may describe your character's actions and decisions. The mod will respond with reactions and any particular consequences, and the mod and player will move throughout the scenario together, until all questions are satisfied and all actions are taken.
After this informational thread is complete, it's assumed that anything learned within is now common knowledge for the rest of the game. You're still welcome to thread out discussion or discovery of this ICly, but if you'd like to skip ahead to any fallout or follow-up action, that's also fine.
As a note, these threads do not have to be limited to one character in the scene. For the ease of moving threads along quickly, we ask that one player take the reins in terms of writing out the actions of all characters involved in the scene. We have a channel reserved in the Discord channel limited to current thread participants to facilitate OOC discussion of who's doing what for this purpose.
There are several routes; it’s atop a ridge along a slope, with relatively wide open ground around it. It would take some doing to circle around behind it, as it’s at the highest point of the ridge, but it can be come at from any angle on this side of the ridge.
Stealth tactics prevails, even if it takes some doing! They'll split off into two groups (Alucard on his own, Aizawa and Bakugo together) and attempt to first reach a point where they can see what the glinting thing is exactly!
The thing that comes into sight doesn’t seem to be attempting to hide. It’s a small creature, about a foot in length. It’s moving along the top of the ridge, and seems to be injured. It limps along, dragging two of its limbs behind it in a pattern reminiscent of the tracks seen earlier. Once in a while its wings buzz, but it doesn’t get far off of the ground before it hits the rocks again to continue its limping progress. It doesn’t seem to have spotted them.
It does not seem to be bleeding, and it doesn’t alter its behavior as they follow it. It limps steadily on, ad if anything, its limp gets a little more pronounced.
As they reach the top of the ridge, however, they may notice that what scrub brush there is out here looks a little different on the other side of the ridge, previously out of sight. It seems more colorless, almost silvery, and sharper.
Is it leaving more tracks on this terrain and if so, do those tracks match the ones they've been following?
As always though! They'll take the slow and steady path per Aizawa's suggestions and rely on Alucard's supersight to pick up on anything in advance. Are the bushes made of metal and does it appear to be the same material as the little bug'ling, if so? :0
It is, and it does match. It’s also beginning to slip over the top of the ridge and down the other side, towards the oddly formed brush — which looks as though it may be metal, but it’s difficult to say from a distance.
Aizawa and Bakugo will hang back and let Alucard take point, since he has the best super-vision and likely won't have to get as close to figure out what exactly is going on in the brush. They will advance on the brush!
CHECK TIME FROM REARGUARD BAKUGO: Is there any other movement around them other than the limping critter?
From a little closer, it does look to be metal, and in strange shapes. Most of it follows the general form that the grasses, brush, and small trees have out here, but some of it seems grown in strange directions, or misshapen.
There is no movement, aside from the creature in sight.
They're going to focus on the brush for a while. Bakugo is going to touch it, like immediately. Smh. Is the metal similar to the creature they've been following or the ones that attacked them previously? He's looking to see for that similarity first!
He's going to try and blunt-force rip one of the bushes up by the roots to take back to the city for somebody to look over. If he cuts himself on it in the process, so be it. He probably (definitely) cuts himself, he's just not that careful a guy!
Oh, he’s definitely cutting himself. But he can successfully pull it out of the ground. It looks like a metal sculptor was given the description of a sage bush and did their best, but there are some very alien additions and modifications that make it look not quite right. It is, at least, inert, as a bush should be.
Ow. He'll use some of his costume's mask to make a makeshift Bush Bjorn and strap it carefully to himself, just to leave his hands free. In the time it took him to uproot the bush, is the creature still in view? If so, he's going to point it out to his two companions and suggest they capture it.
It is, after all, smaller than the creatures that attacked them aka more manageable to keep alive and study. Maybe.
The creature is still in sight, but just barely. It’s dragged itself up another ridge and seems to be having some issues at the top of that one, weaving back and forth atop it, just shy of going out of line of sight.
They will pick up the pace to catch up with it, because they have every intention of grabbing it before it goes too far. Bakugo wanted to follow it to any sort of den it might have, but bringing back a live specimen to the folks back in the city might be just as good right now.
They catch up with one another and decide on this: Alucard and Bakugo will loop around to attack its injured side as a distraction. Aizawa will use his capture weapon to TANGLE IT UP!! and immobilize it. They want to capture it alive!
The plan is a good one, with just a small complication — they can’t seem to get very close. As soon as they begin to move after it in earnest, its pace picks up, and it seems to keep always 30 feet ahead of them. Would they break stealth in favor of speed?
Doubting that any of them don't find the creature's movements A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS AND CONCERNING, they'll still break stealth in favor of speed! GUN IT, FOLKS.
Then the chase is on, it seems. As soon as they break cover and run for it, the creature springs nimbly into the air, seemingly completely uninjured. It moves swiftly, heading for a large patch of particularly thick metal growth, partially covered and shaded by an outcropping of rock. Do they have the ability to intercept it?
Two of the trio are pretty fast, as far as I'm aware. Alucard is way faster than a normal human and Bakugo has the ability to propel himself very quickly by using his quirk. He definitely springs into action first, because he's a reactionary little jerk -- using his explosions to get into the air and attempt to come down, feet first, onto the creature's back. Hopefully, if he can, he can drive it back to the ground where the other two can help wrangle it!
The speed is enough — Bakugo catches the creature about 50 feet from the grove it was making for, pinning it to the ground. It struggles frantically, wings buzzing and its many, knifelike limbs flailing at anyone near.
That’s about when the ground rumbles faintly, and the metallic brush near that outcropping of rock begins to shake and shiver.
From on top of the creature, Bakugo is going to threaten it with some small explosions to a) gauge its reaction and b) put on a display for whatever might be rattling around in the metallic brush. He's poised to flee, as are the other two, but just -- needs to see what is going on.
The creature under him makes a high, panicked whirring sound, its struggling growing all the more frantic. And from the metal brush comes a low rumble of a sound — a deep roar? — as something begins to thrust into sight. It looks like a very large, long maw, closed, but nonetheless overflowing with far too many teeth. Even this distance away, it looks very, very big.
ABANDON SHIP. They'll give up on pinning the smaller creature down and capturing it in favor of a full-sprint flight away from the toothy maw. Bakugo does explode loudly and snarl at it in retaliation, but he's not stupid enough to stand his ground any longer and BACKPEDALS.
Aizawa uses his binding cloth to grab/leverage Bakugo and drag him back into the group, so they're not all so scattered.
As soon as it’s freed, the creature springs into the air and continues its dash toward the shaded grove. It disappears easily within the sharp and twisted flora, and the shaking calms. The maw withdraws with only a few more rustles and a quiet grumble.
