Occasionally mods will be allowing a set number of characters to schedule an involved conversation with a mod regarding the discovery of something in game, as announced on the OOC community or on a mod log. Characters who have signed up for the option will be selected via RNG (with preference given to characters who have not yet had a thread like this), and the thread will be conducted on this page.
You can see a sample thread in the comments below, but in essence, this thread is meant to mimic the conversation a tabletop player might have with their DM. The mod will establish the setting, and you may describe your character's actions and decisions. The mod will respond with reactions and any particular consequences, and the mod and player will move throughout the scenario together, until all questions are satisfied and all actions are taken.
After this informational thread is complete, it's assumed that anything learned within is now common knowledge for the rest of the game. You're still welcome to thread out discussion or discovery of this ICly, but if you'd like to skip ahead to any fallout or follow-up action, that's also fine.
As a note, these threads do not have to be limited to one character in the scene. For the ease of moving threads along quickly, we ask that one player take the reins in terms of writing out the actions of all characters involved in the scene. We have a channel reserved in the Discord channel limited to current thread participants to facilitate OOC discussion of who's doing what for this purpose.
In that case! Since there is a good amount of height to use, 9S will hop off the building and use Pod to glide down toward the hole, grab on to the side of said hole, and use the ledge to support himself on one foot so he can take a peek inside.
Inside is a dark hallway, seemingly just as untouched as any other building in this empty city. The wreckage of the broken window is still visible on the ground, two storeys down. If he stops and listens, there is a very faint scratching sound coming from somewhere out of sight down the hallway, toward the end of the building where the light was set up.
9S will go in, without using any light for the moment as to not draw any attention to himself yet, and walk down slowly. Midway through he'll pause, in case the scratching noises continue.
Welp, time to just go for it. 9S will have Pod float ahead of him and shine its flashlight around the corner at whatever is there, with the intention of baiting anything out that may potentially be hostile.
Its flashlight glints off of metal — this creature crouches at the base of a locked door, digging at the crack under the plastic-coated door, where light from the beacon can be seen faintly shining through. It's about 6 inches long. After a few seconds of light being shone at it, it will pause, and seem to slowly refocus its attention on the flashlight.
Whoa okay, since it doesn't immediately attack 9S will draw more closer himself, but still keep a reasonable distance away. Does the creature appear ready to attack or is it too distracted by the flashlight?
It seems very distracted. It leaps into the air, but it takes a rather slow and leisurely approach as it flies up and over to investigate the flashlight. It doesn't seem to notice 9S at all.
Good, then he'll take the chance to look over this weird creature real quick. Is it entirely covered in metal, or does it have any obvious squishy bits like the bladed creatures' eyes?
It's almost entirely metal, but the reddish interior glimpsed through protective caging seems like it may be soft and organic.
Unfortunately, it doesn't give him very long to study it, because just then it notices Pod behind the light, and suddenly it isn't moving so slowly anymore. It's going for an attack, and will wrap all of its limbs around Pod if given the chance.
Fortunately, Pod does not know how to panic, so it'll just bob uneasily in the air. But 9S does, so he won't waste any time taking his sword and going in to stab the thing through the caging and into the red maybe-flesh.
Good!! After looking over the now dead creature, 9S will just... kick its corpse to the side, outta the way buddy, and decide that the door ahead is probably the way to go. What type of lock is on the door?
It will take him a few kicks, but the door does eventually give way.
Inside the room is dusty and untouched but, for once, bright. A large industrial strength spotlight is set in the middle of the room and pointed up, a system of mirrors and lenses keeping the beam unwavering, shining directly into the sky. There are banks of computer systems lining the walls, all of them unpowered. It seems the light is the only thing working in the room.
A bank of crystals has grown over the light's base at the floor, over the grid that would usually power it, and they glow softly, seemingly with a light of their own.
